About the Ratings
  • London Tennis Number (LTN) - a system to allowing players to self-rate themselves using a ten-point scale. These ratings should be simialr to the LTA scale, eg. a player with a LTN of 5 should be capable of achieving an LTA rating of 5.2 or 5.1, (see below).
  • British Tennis Ratings - a rating given by players who have registered with the Lawn Tennis Association, more information at lta.org.uk, players with London Tennis Premium Membership are entitled to FREE British Tennis Membership from the LTA which entitles that player to a FREE LTA rating.
  • London Tennis Site Rankings - our own brilliant and unique rating system that ranks players based on the results against other London Tennis players. The ranking uses an algorithm which is run daily across all players on the site.
  • London Tennis Champions Race Rankings - our own system which is like the London Tennis Site Ranking with a few tweaks to make it more relevant to this competition. For more information on our Champions Race, see here.
London Tennis Number (LTN) You can change your LTN at any time on your account page.

Players without a London Tennis Site Ranking or an LTA rating (see both below) can select their own rating, choosing a London Tennis Number (LTN) using the London Tennis rating system below and please be honest in everyones interest:

LTN - 10 – Improver
Entry level competition player, just able to serve and maintain a short rally at a slow pace with very limited control.

LTN - 9 – Intermediate
This player has more control on groundstrokes but still playing a very basic game with little idea of tactics.

LTN - 8 – Advanced Intermediate
This player has more stroke control to direct the ball a little, struggling with control and depth together.

LTN 7 - Advanced
This player is not yet totally comfortable with all strokes. This player can hit depth by not consistently, although will have some direction and power.

LTN 6 – Good Club
This player will have more match play experience and ability although likely to still have stroke weaknesse. May play in a club team, 3rd or 4th in a club with a good range of players or higher in a smaller club.

LTN 5 - High Club
This player has more dependable strokes and control and consistent depth on both groundstrokes. Has the ability to use lobs, overheads, approach-shots and volleys and better idea of tactis. May play second team in a club with a good range of players or first team in a smaller club.

LTN 4 - Top Club
This player can use power and spin and can handle pace. Has sound footwork and can control depth of shots. Can vary a game plan according to opponents. Has ability to hit strong second serves. May play first or second team in a club with a good range of players.

LTN 3 – Top Amateur Player
This player has good anticipation and frequently an outstanding shot or attribute around which a game may be structured. Can regularly hit winners and force errors off short balls. Can put away volleys and smashes and has a variety of serves to rely on. Top club team player for sure!

LTN 2 - National Standard
Nationally ranked player.

LTN 1 - World Standard
World Ranked player.
